Mechanical Engineering Student Presents at BMES
Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student, Alex Laprade, was one of the 29 students chosen from 450 undergraduate submissions to give an oral presentation on Oct 10, 2015 at the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Annual Conference in Tampa, FL. Alex conducted summer research in the Integrated BioMicroFluidics (iBMF) lab at CUA, which resulted in his presentation at BMES titled "Lipid Bilayer Formation in PDMS Microfluidics Towards Highly Stable Artificial Cell Membrane". He was the very first student to present at 8am in the Undergraduate Research, Design and Leadership section, immediately after which he headed back to CUA to join as a starter in the home game against Drew University at 1pm. Meanwhile Alex's advisor Dr. Xiaolong Luo stayed at Tampa to give an oral presentation in the afternoon titled "Static Gradients Generated with Biofabricated Semi-Permeable Biopolymer Membranes in Microfluidics for Bacterial Chemotaxis Studies". Great job, Alex, for firing up both science and athletic!
