Dr. Brown Named ASHRAE Fellow

Congratulations Professor Steven Brown for being named ASHRAE Fellow!

J. Steven Brown has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Heating, Ventilating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE; www.ashrae.org), a recognition achieved by only approximately 1 % of ASHRAE members. He was honored at a plenary session on January 18th at the annual Winter Meeting of ASHRAE.

He has been a member of ASHRAE since 1993 and has been and is currently a member of several ASHRAE Technical Committees. He also serves as an Associated Editor of the ASHRAE HVAC&R Research Journal. He is also a member of ASME, IIR, and is a registered professional engineer in the State of Maryland. He has served as an ABET Mechanical Engineering Program Evaluator since 2006.

In being elected to the grade of Fellow, the ASHRAE Board of Directors recognized him as having attained distinction and having made significant contributions in education and research. His research interests lie in the areas of air conditioning and refrigeration, alternative refrigerants and cycles, organic Rankine cycles, thermodynamics, and two-phase flow and heat transfer. He has authored over 50 journal and conference papers, with very significant ones related to carbon dioxide refrigeration cycles and alternative refrigerants, particularly HFO refrigerants.
